Senior Fleet Operations Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Fleet Operations Manager to oversee and optimize their extensive fleet operations based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, ZA . This hybrid role requires a dynamic leader who can balance essential on-site management with the flexibility of remote work. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness across our fleet.

This includes managing vehicle maintenance, driver performance, route optimization, and compliance with all relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fleet management best practices and a proven ability to implement innovative solutions that drive operational excellence. This is a key leadership position within our organization, offering significant impact on our logistical capabilities in the Mpumalanga region.

• Develop and implement strategic plans for fleet growth and optimization.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet, including scheduling, dispatch, and route planning.
• Manage and mentor a team of fleet supervisors and drivers, fostering a culture of performance and safety.
• Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, and national transportation regulations.
• Monitor fleet performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
• Manage fleet maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize vehicle lifespan.
• Control fleet operating costs, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, and repairs.
• Implement and leverage fleet management technology, such as GPS tracking and telematics.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
• Develop and deliver training programs for drivers on safety, efficiency, and customer service.

• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in fleet management or transportation operations.
• Demonstrated experience in managing large, diverse fleets.
• Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management.
• In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance standards.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent financial acumen, with experience managing operational budgets.
• Proficiency in fleet management software and related technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is highly desirable.
