OverviewCadrex is searching for a Packaging Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing packaging solutions that ensure the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective handling of products through manufacturing, distribution, and final delivery. This role requires collaboration across design, production, quality, logistics, and suppliers to optimize packaging performance while meeting sustainability and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop packaging for new and existing products, including primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging
- Conduct performance testing (drop, vibration, environmental, etc.) to ensure packaging integrity and compliance with specifications
- Evaluate packaging materials and technologies to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and support sustainability initiatives
- Collaborate with product design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure packaging supports production and logistics requirements
- Create detailed packaging drawings, specifications, and documentation using CAD and PLM systems
- Work with suppliers to source, qualify, and validate packaging materials and processes
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging line efficiency, waste reduction, and ergonomics
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., ISTA, ASTM, DOT, FDA, ISO) and customer‑specific requirements
- Conduct root cause analysis for packaging‑related quality or logistics issues and implement corrective actions
- Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and cost analyses for packaging components
- 3+ years of experience in packaging design, testing, and validation in a manufacturing or distribution environment preferred
- Hands‑on experience with packaging materials such as corrugated, foam, films, plastics, and metals
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Artios
CAD) and testing protocols (ISTA, ASTM) - Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) is a plus
- Familiarity with sustainability standards, recyclability, and lifecycle cost analysis preferred
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration abilities
- Detail‑oriented with strong project management skills
- Ability to balance cost, performance, and sustainability in packaging solutions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant engineering tools
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred
