Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Quality Control Technician. This role is for our Fall River, MA site. The role of the 1st Shift Quality Tech is to help solve quality problems on dryers by taking measurements, doing testing and effecting repairs. Additionally, will assist in certifying materials or machines to reduce the End of line (EOL) testing and field failures.

Areas can be main line or medium large assembly or fabrication as required by the problems. Tasks will vary day by day based on the needs of Quality and production. Flexibility in work hours as needed. Reports to Metrology/Fabrication Engineer.

Overview

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Quality Control Technician for the Fall River, MA site. The role involves solving quality problems on dryers, taking measurements, performing tests, and implementing repairs. The role may involve certifying materials or machines to reduce EOL testing and field failures. Responsibilities may vary by area (main line, large assembly or fabrication) based on quality and production needs.

Flexibility in work hours as needed. Reports to Metrology/Fabrication Engineer.

Responsibilities
  • Work with test booth operators to understand and aid in the problems.
  • Understand EOL inspections and help improve in-line inspection to reduce failures at EOL and in the field.
  • Inspect and take measurements on dryers in the line.
  • Inspect materials required to run the next day (in line, fabrication, incoming material from suppliers).
  • Perform repairs or some assembly operations on the line to stage the line for success the next day.
  • Run dryers through the Main Line Customer Assurance Lab (CAL) test as required when installed.
  • Perform process audits as required on the off shift.
  • Plan and perform work and make decisions involving the use of judgment and initiative.
  • Lead problem solving using World Class Manufacturing (WCM) tools.
  • Learn new skills as needed.
  • Follow all Whirlpool Safety policies when working in the plant.
  • Use measuring devices and read simple drawings; interpret production schedules and inspection reports.
  • Lift parts and perform assembly operations in a safe manner.
  • Support cost and quality projects by providing data and evaluation.
  • Evaluate parts and products for non-conformances.
  • Report issues with accuracy of BOMs.
  • Track/understand CNs.
  • Understand and support APQP and QMS processes as needed.
  • Communicate directly with suppliers and operations concerning APQP issues.
  • Perform fit/function evaluations.
  • Use all designated safety equipment and follow safe practice rules.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 6+ months of experience doing manufacturing quality inspections and running tests.
Preferred skills and experiences
  • Ability to operate complicated equipment safely including electrical and gas hookups.
  • Self-motivated and able to work on their own.
