Overview
We are seeking a Packaging Technologist to support two key initiatives at Mars Snacking. Kellanova/Mars Snacking is investing £75 million into its Wrexham cereal plant, transforming it into Europe’s largest cereal manufacturing site. We’re seeking a Packaging Technologist to join our project delivery team, playing a key role in this exciting expansion.
In this role, you’ll support the commissioning and start-up of new packaging production lines at our Wrexham factory. Responsibilities include defining packaging specifications, assessing proposed equipment, supporting acceptance tests, conducting factory trials, and overseeing the commissioning and qualification of packaging on both new and existing lines. The position is primarily based at Wrexham, with some flexibility for remote work depending on project needs.
Following the completion of this work the next challenge will be to ensure compliance to future Packaging requirements driven by the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations. In this role you will help support work streams from idea through to execution tackling challenges across our Snacks and Cereal portfolios.
A Taste of What You’ll Be Doing- Packaging Development & Compliance – Drive packaging development projects, provide factory support, and ensure all packaging meets food safety and quality standards.
- Plant Trials – Plan, organise, and lead plant trials, testing, and support the commissioning of new packaging equipment.
- Data Analysis – Analyse trial data, apply statistical methods, and ensure testing, OEE, and approval processes are followed.
- Reporting – Communicate findings, highlight risks, propose solutions, and keep project teams updated.
- Project Management – Manage timelines, escalate challenges, and maintain accurate product specifications.
- Project Delivery – Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, with a smooth handover to plant teams.
- Proven experience in Packaging Development or a related role.
- Strong understanding of packing line equipment, machinery commissioning, line performance, and packaging standards.
- Knowledge of packaging components, materials, and manufacturing processes, including how these impact physical and barrier properties.
- Experience in organising and leading packaging trials to validate solutions.
- Ability to analyse data using statistical methods and make informed recommendations.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of the impact of PPWR on packaging components and struct
