Substation CADD Technician – HDR
HDR is seeking a Substation CADD Technician for our Power Delivery team in Western Canada. The role provides CADD and technical design support for large‑scale and small‑scale engineering projects across Canada and the United States.
Primary Responsibilities- Develop detailed 3‑D models for substation components and physical layouts utilizing Autodesk Revit.
- Prepare substation drawings such as plan and elevation views, control building details, grading plans, foundation details, grounding and conduit plans, control wiring schematic diagrams, and other related drawings.
- Generate 2‑D drawings and construction documentation directly from 3‑D Revit models to ensure accuracy and coordination.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to perform clash detection and resolve spatial conflicts within the 3‑D environment.
- Provide technical design and support for large‑ and small‑scale engineering projects.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Associate or technical school degree, or Revit and AutoCAD or Micro Station certification, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience developing substation CADD layouts/designs from engineering designs.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk Revit (3‑D) is highly required.
- Electrical utility or similar design experience preferred.
- Ability to work closely with engineering staff, both local and in remote offices.
- Experience migrating 2‑D CAD workflows into 3‑D BIM/Revit workflows is a plus.
- Technically qualified with 3‑D design software and document management infrastructure.
- Competency with Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits are essential.
- Basic understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.
We provide a comprehensive benefits package that promotes employee ownership, health, performance, and success. The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full‑time regular positions. Temporary and part‑time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Pay range for Vancouver, BC: $47,355 – $67,650.
