In this vital role, you will prepare fabricated sheet metal parts and weldments for paint by sanding, grinding, blending, and deburring them to a smooth, uniform finish. Working from work orders, drawings, and work instructions, you will make sure every part meets our quality and safety standards before it moves to the Paint Line. No finishing experience? We’ll train the right person.
If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where precision and teamwork matter, we’d love to hear from you!
Shift Available:
Second Shift-2:30pm-11:00pm Monday-Friday
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate orbital/DA sanders to sand surfaces and blend welds, scratches, and other marks to an even, paint-ready finish.
- Operate portable grinders to grind weld seams flush, and deburr and break sharp edges using grinders, files, and hand tools.
- Select, dress, and change abrasive discs, wheels, and pads to suit the material and finish requirement.
- Read and interpret work orders, mechanical drawings (standard and metric), and work instructions to determine finishing requirements.
- Inspect finished parts visually and with measuring tools before they move to the Paint Line, and verify other operators’ work when assigned.
- Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming parts, report quality issues, and start nonconformance documentation per MPE procedures.
- Complete production records and work order sign-offs accurately and legibly.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on finishing equipment and dust collection booths, and report equipment problems promptly.
- Wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures, including safe tool operation, guarding, and lockout/tagout where applicable.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Meet production goals for quality, output, and on-time completion, and keep your Team Leader updated on work status.
- Train other team members as directed and take part in continuous improvement activities.
