This is an exciting time for a Senior Communications Manager to join our growing Communications team at AWE.
AWE is entering a new era as we deliver critical programmes to support national security. We're looking for someone to join our communications team and help tell the story of our unique mission to keep the country safe.
Location: Hybrid and flexible working, with our offices based in Berkshire between Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury with onsite parking and public transport services.
Salary: Starting at £44,240. This is very much open to negotiation if you have the experience and talent we are looking for.
A typical day as a Senior Communications Manager could look like this:
No two days will ever be the same in our exciting, busy, dynamic working environment. Projects are varied with lots of opportunity to get involved in different areas within the business.
As a Senior Communications Manager you will provide communications and engagement consultancy, plans and measurable deliverables to support audience engagement in the AWE story through effective communications activity that results in the desired outcomes (in terms of think, feel and do) across all stakeholder groups.
Key Responsibilities- Shaping and delivering communications plans to meet business priorities and objectives
- Creating, developing, maintaining and delivering engaging communications using a wide range of channels and techniques
- Drafting messages and content for stakeholders to achieve communications objectives. Developing measures, evaluating data and bringing insight to recommend improvements to communications campaigns and activities
- Applying project management skills to identify and overcome obstacles to delivery
- Applying communications skills to convey difficult messages in a simple manner
- Enhancing draft written or visual materials with business objectives and the target audience in mind
- Working across the Corporate Affairs function to make optimal use of channels and techniques to deliver communications objectives
- Writing and editing copy that aligns to strategic priorities and objective
- Using visual techniques to make communications stand out
- Making effective use of measures to evaluate communications and contribute to continuous improvement
- Upholding a strong brand (corporate identity) and rounded understanding of the theory, development and application of internal communications
- Experience of developing and implementing change projects
- Influencing and supporting leaders at all levels
- Proven experience of emergency and business continuity arrangements specifically when applied to communication requirements
- Experience with managing communications or social media crisis
- Knowledge and understanding of producing copy for social media and asset creation
- 25 days annual leave

Important Information- The advert will close on:
- Interviews will be on TEAMS (90 minutes) in early October with a ten‑minute presentation. There will also be a pre‑interview skills test.
- You must be willing and able to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (funded by us) in order to start with us in this role. It can take several months for clearance to come through.
- This job role is suitable for hybrid, flexible working, which is an informal, non‑contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station) and working from home as a personal choice.
- This role does require some attendance for meetings on site as required at RG7 4PR
along with occasional travel to our other sites, if required. - The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.
