Overview

The CDC Foundation seeks up to two candidates for a full-time Communications Specialist who will provide direct support and technical assistance to perinatal quality collaboratives (PQCs) to strengthen their activities supporting the health of mothers and babies as well as build their long-term communication capacity. PQCs work at the state level to improve maternal and infant health outcomes and their quality of care.

While the specific programs of PQCs vary, these important collaboratives partner with many key audiences including hospitals, health departments, health professionals, nonprofits, local families, and others.

The Communications Specialist(s) will support PQCs with diverse requests that may range from tactical needs such as graphic design, document layout, website updates, social media support, and video production to broader strategic needs like audience research and communications planning and dissemination. Candidates with diverse communications backgrounds and levels of experience are encouraged to apply, and starting salary will be commensurate with experience.

Experience with maternal and child health or PQCs is ideal but not required. Up to two candidates with complementary skill sets will be selected for this opportunity.

This opportunity is funded by a federal award through September 29, 2026, with the possibility of extension. This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement for U.S. based candidates, but local candidates are preferred.

  • Coordinate with team members, partners, and consultants on content development and dissemination.
  • Manage clearance processes when required for publications and reports.
  • Strengthen working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, public health, public policy, or related fields. Master’s degree preferred for more experienced candidates.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly produce quality communication products, preferably across varied media and channels. Communications outputs could include documents, social media graphics, websites, videos, communication plans, etc.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a team and serve remote partners while punctually completing tasks independently.
  • Ability to work with diverse partners from different backgrounds and places in support of varied communications or social marketing campaigns.
  • Experience translating and communicating scientific or technical information for lay audiences.
  • Experience with maternal and child health, PQCs, and public health communications preferred, especially for more senior candidates.
