At the Safety Codes Council, our work supports a strong, consistent safety system across Alberta. We’re looking for a Communications Advisor who enjoys turning complex information into clear, engaging stories and providing trusted advice that supports meaningful public‑sector work. About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Communications, you’ll be a strategic communications partner to teams across the organization. You’ll lead communication planning, create high‑quality content, and support major Council initiatives through strong storytelling, sound judgment, and collaboration.
What you’ll do
Lead or co‑develop communication strategies and plans aligned with organizational priorities
Create clear, engaging written and visual content for web, intranet, newsletters, social media, presentations, and executive materials
Translate complex or technical information into plain‑language communications
Provide trusted communication advice, editing support, and quality assurance to leaders and teams
Manage and optimize digital and internal communication channels, including web and social media
Support projects, initiatives, and events by coordinating communication timelines and approvals
Use analytics and insights to assess effectiveness and continuously improve communication approaches
What you bring
Demonstrated proficiency in professional communications, typically gained through 4–5 years of progressively responsible experience
A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field (equivalencies considered)
Strong writing, editing, and messaging skills for diverse internal and external audiences
Confidence supporting executive‑and Board‑facing communications
Experience contributing to communication planning aligned with organizational goals
Strong project coordination skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Digital fluency, including social media, analytics tools, and content management systems (Microsoft environment)
Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a high standard of quality and accuracy
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build productive relationships across teams
Nice to have
Experience with CP Style writing, photography, or video production
Experience working in public sector, regulatory, or complex policy environments
