The Social Media Manager is a key member of the Marketing, Communications, Recruitment and Events team, contributing to the college’s reputation, attracting prospective students, and strengthening engagement with internal and external audiences.
Position OverviewWe’re seeking a creative and strategic social media expert who understands the power of storytelling to inform, inspire and connect people. The role includes shaping online presence, uncovering stories, identifying opportunities, and creating engaging content that strengthens reputation, builds community, and supports enrolment goals.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain the social media strategy and annual plans.
- Create audience segmentation and targeting strategies to align content with audiences such as prospective students, current students, employees, alumni, donors and community partners.
- Oversee integrated content plans and collaborate with partners across the college.
- Bring college priorities to life through creative storytelling and campaigns.
- Contribute to planning, prioritization, resource allocation and budget stewardship.
- Develop and nurture a network of creators, storytellers and partners.
- Collaborate with channel owners across web, intranet, email, and multimedia to align content strategies and improve engagement.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration on social content for major campaigns and institutional initiatives.
- Champion inclusive practices and ensure content is clear, accessible and inclusive.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Communications and Events teams to amplify key messages.
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to colleagues and partners.
- Foster a culture of creativity, experimentation and continuous improvement.
- Translate data insights into actionable recommendations.
- Establish performance benchmarks, KPIs and reporting dashboards.
- Use A/B testing and performance insights to optimize strategies.
- Use social listening and audience insights to inform planning.
- Track competitor activity to identify best practices and emerging platforms.
- Maintain crisis playbooks, escalation paths and approval protocols.
- Lead rapid response during issues and recommend messaging cadence.
- Assess risk and implement review cycles for compliance and privacy safeguards.
- Scan the landscape and translate insights into practice.
- Test new formats and channels to expand reach.
- Standardize playbooks and toolkits from successful pilots.
- Three-year diploma or degree in communications, marketing, digital media, public relations or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years in social media strategy or digital communications, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated success managing institutional or large-brand social media channels.
- Advanced knowledge of strategy and platform management, content optimization and integration of paid and organic campaigns.
- Competency in crisis communications and issues management.
- In-depth understanding of reputation management and social listening.
- Proficiency in social media management and analytics tools.
- Advanced creative strategy and multimedia storytelling skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills for managing support staff.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
