Police Digital Service (PDS) is recruiting on behalf of the NPCC National Data & Analytics Office (NDAO) - a dedicated national capability transforming data use in policing.
Starting at £40,000 per annum
The Communications Officers will support the delivery of high-quality, consistent, and engaging communications for the NPCC National Data & Analytics Office (NDAO), helping to promote national data and analytics programmes across UK policing. The role is responsible for producing clear, accessible content, supporting internal and external communications activities, and helping to maintain strong engagement with police forces, national bodies, government partners, and technical stakeholders.
Reporting to the Head of Comms & Engagement, ensuring that key messages about data transformation, standards, and national capabilities are communicated effectively. This role plays a vital part in strengthening awareness, encouraging adoption and building an understanding of national data initiatives, supporting transparent, trusted, and well-coordinated communication across the policing ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of communication activities linked to NDAO priorities, and national data programmes.
- Drafting of internal content for use in newsletters, briefing documents and presentations, ensuring information is accurate, engaging, and up to date.
- Creation of engaging content for external use, including website content, social media content and event materials that clearly communicate technical and strategic information in a simplified, non-jargon manner.
- Assist in the organisation and delivery of media activity when required, ensuring policing leads are well briefed in advance of such activity.
- Develop, deliver, monitor and evaluate communication strategies handling plans to communicate activity and positions.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders including government, other agencies, police forces, and work collaboratively with shared issues.
- Seek external insight, research, best practice and new ideas to contribute to the development of the communications undertaken.
- Monitor, and manage issues of reputational risk providing strategic communications advice and develop handling plans and messaging.
- Ensure you are up to date and linked into the national narrative for policing so that communications is consistent and aligned with policing strategy.
- Coordinate and produce internal updates to keep NDAO staff informed and engaged.
- Assist with the organisation and delivery of workshops, webinars, and cross force engagement sessions.
- Assist in communications during and after national events.
- Work with programme leads to develop targeted updates, explainer materials, and engagement content for national data capabilities, standards, and transformation initiatives.
- Track engagement metrics, feedback, and channel performance to support continuous improvement of communication approaches.
- Keep up to date with police communications best practice principles to ensure outputs are clear and consistent with national messaging.
What you need to succeed in the role
- Understanding of key communications principles, public sector communication, or organisational communications.
- Experience in the creation of high-quality, innovative written content, communications products and/or stakeholder updates.
- Confident in use of digital communication channels and content creation (intranets, newsletters, web content, social media etc.).
- Experience with trade and mainstream media to ensure widespread sharing of NDAO related updates and media briefings (where appropriate).
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible content. Developed strategy skills able to shape a communications strategy and implementation plan
