We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic Communications Officer to help promote our work to the seafood industry and broader stakeholders.

Job role, responsibilities and relationships

The Communications Officer helps turn Seafish’s work, expertise and impact into clear and compelling stories. Working across media, digital and internal channels, the postholder will spot communications opportunities, create engaging and accessible content and support campaigns that reach people across the UK seafood industry and beyond.

The role purpose it to help show how Seafish contributes to a safe and skilled workforce, smoother and expanding seafood trade and a resilient supply chain. This is a varied role for someone who enjoys finding the story in complex subjects, adapting content for different audiences and working with colleagues and stakeholders to bring those stories to life.

Role dimensions, accountabilities and impact:
  • Delivering engaging and accessible content across owned, earned and paid channels, with a focus on telling the story of Seafish’s impact.
  • Identifying story and content opportunities across the organisation and externally.
  • Contributing to the planning, delivery and evaluation of internal and external communications campaigns that promote our work to the seafood industry and wider stakeholders.
  • Supporting the Seafish press office by acting as a contact for media enquiries and undertaking proactive activities to engage the media with Seafish stories.

Key accountabilities will be:
  • Supporting the Communications team planning and delivery of integrated communications activity about a range of Seafish impacts and seafood-related topics that meet organisational and project objectives.
  • Creating high-quality content for use across all channels, including press releases, features, webpages, blogs, intranet, emails and social media posts, ensuring it meets accessibility standards, reflects audience needs and includes key messages in line with our brand.
  • Acting as a first point of contact for some of our day-to-day media enquiries to ensure we deliver timely and accurate responses.
  • Identifying proactive media and content opportunities that support organisational priorities.
  • Working with colleagues to create, update and improve website content based on organisational priorities and audience needs.
  • Supporting the delivery of internal communications so colleagues are informed and can engage stakeholders effectively, including drafting organisational updates and briefings about our communications campaigns.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement by working with colleagues to develop clear messages, communications materials and plans for projects.
  • Planning and delivering agreed communications campaigns and projects, ensuring activities are completed on time, objectives are met and outcomes are evaluated.
  • Contributing to reporting and evaluation of our media engagement and PR activities.
Essential working relationships will include:
Internal relationships
  • Reporting to the Brand and Engagement Manager, while working closely with the PR and Communications Manager, the Head of Communications and all other members of the wider Communications team.
  • Regular communication with other Seafish teams and colleagues when developing content, handling enquiries and providing communications support.
External relationships
  • Communication with journalists, stakeholders and partners when developing and sharing campaigns and content, and responding to enquiries.
  • Engaging with appointed suppliers, agencies and contractors for projects.
  • Acting as a representative of Seafish at events or when capturing content must be a confident communicator with the ability to engage with stakeholders.
