About

the role

The Content Writer creates clear, accurate, and engaging written content for patients, prescribers, and partners across Valor's website, email, social media, and educational materials. This is a 6-month independent contractor engagement. Hours will vary based on project volume, up to 20 hours per week; any hours beyond that require Valor's prior written approval. Work is remote, and the contractor sets their own schedule as long as agreed deadlines are met.

Scope

of work
  • Write and edit content for the website, blog, email campaigns, social media, and patient and provider education materials
  • Translate complex pharmacy and compounding topics into clear, accessible language for patients and healthcare professionals
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and subject matter experts to ensure all content is accurate; have all clinical content reviewed and approved by a pharmacist before publishing
  • Ensure all content follows applicable regulatory guidelines and company policies, and avoids unsupported claims about compounded medications
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice and tone across all channels
  • Apply SEO best practices to improve search visibility for web content
  • Research industry trends, competitors, and audience needs to inform content ideas
  • Deliver completed work by agreed project deadlines
  • Comply with Valor's confidentiality agreement and, if any patient information is involved, HIPAA requirements under a Business Associate Agreement
Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of professional writing experience, preferably in healthcare, pharmacy, or life sciences
  • Established freelance or independent writing business, with other clients preferred
  • Provides their own equipment and software
  • Portfolio or writing samples demonstrating range across formats (web, email, long-form, social)
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong grasp of grammar, style, and editing
  • Familiarity with SEO and content management systems (e.g., Word Press)
  • Experience writing about regulated or technical topics is a plus
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in the English language
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to work independently, manage simultaneous projects, and meet deadlines within a fast-paced and changing environment
This project is a fit if
  • You want to use your writing skills to help patients and providers understand their care
  • You believe in and can demonstrate our core values
  • You are comfortable with a fast-paced, dynamic, and growing pharmacy business based in Berkeley, CA
  • You enjoy meaningful healthcare writing with clear project briefs

The rate for this engagement is $30 to $40 per hour, based on writing samples and experience. Contractors invoice Valor monthly and are responsible for their own taxes and insurance.

  • As a contract position, this role is not eligible for Valor's employee benefits program.

This document provides a general summary of essential responsibilities for the position and is not an exhaustive list. Duties, assignments, and other responsibilities may differ based on business conditions and project needs. Final scope, deliverables, rate, and term will be set out in a written independent contractor agreement.
