Millions of small businesses — the coffee shop, the vacation-rental host, the online seller — have to get sales and lodging tax right, and most of them don’t have a finance team to do it. Avalara builds the software that makes tax compliance automatic. Now we're building a dedicated business to serve the smallest and fastest-growing of those customers, and we're looking for the leader who will make it grow.
As Head of Growth, you'll own growth for a portfolio that includes DAVO (automated sales tax for small businesses, set up through their point-of-sale system), My Lodge Tax (lodging tax registration and filing for short-term rental hosts), and new self-serve, e-commerce and embedded products on the way. You'll have real customers and revenue from day one, a dedicated product and engineering team shipping weekly, and the mandate to turn all of it into a repeatable product-led growth engine.
This isn't a demand-gen seat. You'll own the whole funnel — acquisition, conversion, activation, retention and expansion — and lead the marketing and customer success teams that move it.
What Your Responsibilities Will BeSet the growth strategy and run the numbers. Define the plan, targets and investment priorities for the portfolio. Own full-funnel outcomes, and build the operating rhythm — weekly funnel reviews, experiment readouts, executive updates — that keeps everyone focused on what's moving.
Build the product-led engine. Own the journey from first click to paid customer to long-term retention. Work side by side with Product, Design and Engineering on signup, pricing presentation, checkout, onboarding and in-product prompts, and run a high-tempo experimentation program across all of it.
Win through partners and marketplaces. Much of our growth runs through ecosystems: POS systems, property management platforms, e-commerce and app marketplaces. You'll build the playbooks for listings, co-marketing, partner launches and attribution, and put investment where it pays back.
Keep customers, and grow them. Build lifecycle programs that get customers from purchase to their first successful filing and beyond. Lead the Business Success team, moving it toward signal-driven outreach that catches churn early, and run retention programs from payment recovery to win-back.
Build the team. Lead and grow a team spanning lifecycle and demand marketing, content, organic growth, partner marketing and customer success. Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Sales, Business Development and our CMO's organization.
