Emergency Response Manager:
Ensuring Effective Immigration Rapid Response in Florida

Agency Background:

Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice – formerly FIAC), a not-for-profit law firm founded in 1996 to protect and promote the basic human rights of immigrants, has a multicultural and multilingual staff. AI Justice has represented clients from around the world and is recognized as a powerful advocate and national leader for immigrants' rights. AI Justice works closely with traditional civil rights organizations as well as with grassroots organizations and local, state and national government officials to effect positive change in immigration policies.

More recently, AI Justice has joined other nonprofit organizations throughout the state to form the Florida Rapid Response Alliance for Immigrant Safety and Empowerment (RAISE). This coalition aims to empower and protect immigrant communities in Florida by providing community education trainings and clinics and by undertaking rapid response work to support individuals and communities impacted by increased immigration enforcement.

AI Justice seeks a RAISE Emergency Response Manager to play a vital role in managing our RAISE rapid response work with the goal of ensuring a swift, organized, and effective response to immigration crises in Florida. As immigration-related emergencies arise due to policy changes or enforcement actions impacting immigrant communities, RAISE requires a dedicated professional to manage, coordinate, and streamline these critical efforts.

This position is essential for maximizing the impact and efficiency of rapid response work, ensuring the optimal use of limited human and financial resources while prioritizing the protection of vulnerable populations' rights and well-being.

The RAISE Emergency Response Manager ensures that all coalition members align with shared goals, minimizing duplication of efforts. This role strengthens the coalition’s capacity to address emergencies by effectively leveraging resources, volunteers, and partnerships to respond to crises comprehensively and efficiently.

Duties:

  • Lead and oversee the work of the RAISE coalition’s committees (Program, Communications, Fundraising Committees, Resources).
  • Coordinate rapid response work, though the Rapid Response Hotline and the AI Justice Detention/Removal Defense Hotline.
  • Coordinate responses to federal and state immigration enforcement actions (like immigration raids), detention, and deportation efforts.
  • Act as the main point of contact for RAISE coalition partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with organizations, legal service providers, and local leaders in the immigrant rights space.
  • Coordinate capacity-building activities for coalition partners, volunteers, and community members.
  • Collaborate with and report to a “Steering Committee” made up of members from each RAISE affiliated organization.
  • Coordinate the continued improvement of rapid response resources.
  • Assess the effectiveness of rapid response efforts and recommend improvements.
  • Manage RAISE data collection and retention; collect outcomes to inform advocacy and policy work.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, partners, and priorities under pressure.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams, including volunteers and coalition members.
  • Strong decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences. Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Project Management and the use of project management tools and data tracking systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and produce actionable insights.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, licensed attorney appreciated.

Location: South Florida (Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward, Palm Beach, Collier, and Lee Counties). Position eligible for work from home, hybrid, or in-office designation in accordance with AI Justice Job Classification Policy. There will be various in person requirements throughout the year. The position is full-time with a work schedule of 9:00 a.m.
