BackgroundUN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
In Indonesia, UN Women works with government, civil society organizations, academia, the media, the public and private sectors to address national priorities of gender equality and women’s empowerment. The focus includes inclusive human development, supporting women’s economic empowerment, gender-responsive climate resilience, and leveraging innovation and data for gender responsive governance.
EmPower II ProgrammeUN Women, in partnership with UNEP, implements a programme to promote human rights‑based and gender‑responsive climate action called EmPower:
Women for Climate‑Resilient Societies (EmPower II). The programme aims to increase action on gender‑responsive climate change adaptation and mitigation, ensure women are represented as key environmental actors in decision‑making, and secure climate‑resilient livelihoods for women and other marginalized groups.
Under this programme, UN Women Indonesia collaborates with Green Welfare Indonesia to deliver the fifth cohort of the Climate Education Mentorship & Course (CEMC) Batch V, an eight‑week mentorship programme for young Indonesians, especially young women and youth from marginalized communities.
