Organizational SettingFAO’s commitment to environmental sustainability is integral to its strategic objectives and operations. The Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU) is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the region. It oversees the network of Country Offices and the Subregional Office for Central Asia (SEC).
It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the region, and, in collaboration with Divisions, Offices and Centres at headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to regional priorities and the implementation of the Organization's strategies through programmes and projects across the region. The FAO REU is a strategic partner of the Government of the Republic of Moldova in advancing sustainable agrifood development, is implementing the project “Strengthening Competitiveness and Resilience to Climate Risks of Moldovan Smallholder Farmers within the joint FAO‑UNDP Programme Resilient and Competitive Markets”, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Building on and transitioning from previous emergency response projects, this initiative shifts the focus towards long‑term resilience, supporting smallholder farmers in adopting climate‑smart and conservation agriculture (CSA/CA) practices, improving productivity, and enhancing market access. It also contributes to the development of sustainable value chains, and climate‑resilient livelihoods.
The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Moldova and the direct technical supervision of the Agricultural Officer and the Climate Change Officer based in the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU). The incumbent will collaborate closely with the project team, national counterparts, extension services, and other relevant stakeholders involved in promoting CSA/CA and SALM practices in Moldova.

The incumbent will contribute to strengthening the practical application, scaling‑up, and institutional integration of Climate‑Smart Agriculture (CSA), Conservation Agriculture (CA), and Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) practices in Moldova.
