What We Do
Tree Utah is a 501(c)(3) non‑profit organization that works with students, municipalities, local businesses, community groups, and volunteers to plant trees in public spaces throughout the state. We plant trees of all types and sizes to make Utah a greener place to live, work, and play.
Work Study DetailsTree Utah invites students to participate in a flexible, student‑driven work study program. This opportunity is ideal for students looking to create and implement an environmentally focused project that applies their academic knowledge to a real‑world setting.
Our work study position is a hybrid/remote position tailored to each student’s skills and environmental passions. The CWS student will meet with Tree Utah staff to design a project that aligns with Tree Utah’s mission to improve Utah’s quality of life by enhancing the environment through tree planting, stewardship, and/or education.
CWS Responsibilities Will Include- Design and execute a unique, environmentally focused project
- Support tree planting, education, and community outreach events
- Contribute to urban forestry and environmental education efforts
- Utilize GIS and existing databases to identify schools or community spaces in need of more trees
- Design education materials for Tree Utah staff to share at school planting events
- Design and implement a permaculture project in the Eco Garden alongside oversight from certified arborists
- Create social media content to be posted to the organization’s blog and social media
- Assist with the coordination of tree planting and community engagement events
- Self‑motivated students with a passion for the environment and their community
- Interest in gaining professional experience in the non‑profit sector
- Enthusiasm to participate in community tree planting and outreach events
- Must be a current SLCC student
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to pass a background check per the Bureau of Child Care Licensing of Utah.
- Must be able to pass a TB test per Licensing requirements.
- Must be able to pass a basic physical as per Accreditation standards.
- Must be able to maintain a food handlers permit.
- Must be able to bend, move and interact with children at their level.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and lift up to 30 lbs. daily.
- Must be dependable.
