Overview

As a permanent Independent Advocate, you will help bring this to life by supporting the community in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

We have a diverse range of employees, bank workers, and volunteers from different backgrounds. Previous or current roles and experiences working with vulnerable people are beneficial, but we recruit based on values and the passion to make a difference.

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Location: Home-based with travel around the Birmingham area. Applicants should live in the Birmingham area; have a full driver’s licence and access to their own transport.

Please note:

You may be asked to take a flexible approach and potentially commute outside your specified borough. Mileage within our policy will be covered.

Salary: Starting salary as indicated.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide high-quality instructed and non-instructed advocacy according to the needs of the client and the service being provided.
  • Act on behalf of clients at all times, including following their instructions, taking action as directed by them, or representing their wishes, feelings, beliefs and values in a way that is consistent with the law, guidance and best practice.
  • Evidence effective, outcome-focused case management, ensuring all casework demonstrates planning, action and review with relevant recording.
  • Provide high-quality written reports as part of statutory advocacy roles.
  • Escalate concerns or complaints professionally to relevant public bodies as instructed by clients or as appropriate.
Independent Advocate Requirements
  • Strong communication and time management skills to successfully work remotely.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and the ability to learn software packages such as client management databases.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate recording of records and reporting to meet tight deadlines.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in advocacy, information and advice, or a similar role within health, social care, or the voluntary sector.
  • Demonstrable experience working with vulnerable adults.
  • Working knowledge of public and voluntary organisations.
