This role will contribute to the objectives of Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) which aim to address some of the underlying causes of violence and then work together with communities to prevent them.

The community-led approach to violence reduction, means the VRU works closely with communities to understand the strengths, challenges, and needs of the community and determine how local investments will be made. A key step in delivering the programme is the formation of a local Violence Reduction Alliance – a partnership of organisations that work together on a the priorities set out by the community.

With additional funding from the Home Office, Trafford Community Collective on behalf of 10GM and the VRU are leading recruitment of a part time role for Trafford. The role will help to develop the established Alliance in Trafford supported by local partners including the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, Trafford Community Collective, Trafford Council, and local Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector organisations

The responsibilities of a Violence Reduction Alliance Facilitator are to:

  • Understand the local area – mapping the physical assets and to get to know who lives and works there
  • Work with other local Violence Reduction Alliance Facilitators as a team to share resources and learning
  • Administer project Steering Group meetings, compiling agenda, minutes and relevant reports
  • Produce detailed activity reports, escalating variations to plans to the project Steering Group
  • Provide project management and leadership in the implementation and delivery of the Community-Led Approaches (Violence Reduction) action plan for Trafford and funded projects
  • Support the creation of a local violence reduction action plan or similar document(s)
  • Work with Trafford Collective and other partners to identify and apply for additional funding to embed and sustain projects
  • Make sure that the voices of young people and communities are heard throughout the Violence Reduction Programme
  • Create and strengthen communication and the relationships between Alliance members.
  • Support the activity of a local funding panel.
  • Collate relevant community information to inform strategic decision making.
  • Ensure that learning from the programme is shared with partners to develop stronger cross-sector and cross-borough relationships and developments.
  • Support regular networking, learning, feedback and engagement events.
  • Arrange, coordinate and provide training to partners.
