This will be a Monday - Friday work schedule. Afternoons, evenings and a few weekends based on operational needs.
Our Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an energetic, dynamic, and organized Assistant Program Coordinator to join the Youth Services team. This position reports to and works in collaboration with the Youth Services Coordinator. The primary responsibilities include overseeing the Central and Downtown Neighbourhoods Youth Services Portfolio, supervising front-line workers, and providing site supervision and operation support. The portfolio focuses on middle school aged youth, using recreation as a tool to connect youth with the community.
Candidates will have experience raising the profile of youth within the community, assessing youth needs and making recommendations, and assisting in the planning, promotion, and implementation of community events, programs, and services that engage youth. Applicants should possess skills in establishing and maintaining effective communication and working relationships with youth and the community.
- Oversee the Central and Downtown Neighbourhoods Youth Services Portfolio
- Supervise front-line workers and provide site supervision and operational support
- Develop and implement youth-focused events, programs, and services
- Assess youth needs and make recommendations to enhance programs and services
- Promote youth involvement and strengthen community relationships
- Collaborate with the Youth Services Coordinator and partner organizations
- Maintain clear communication with youth, staff, and community stakeholders
- Completion of a Certificate or diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Recreation, or a related field, plus practical leadership, supervision, and youth engagement experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license;
Class 4 BC license is preferred - High 5 and Food Safe certifications are assets
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C/AED
- Ability to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Flexible schedule and ability to work varied shifts based on operational requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software applications
