About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Community Engagement Officer to serve their mining interests in the Queenstown area and surrounding Eastern Cape communities. This role is crucial for building and maintaining positive relationships between the company and local stakeholders. You will be responsible for developing and implementing community outreach programs, facilitating communication, and addressing community concerns related to mining operations. This hybrid role will involve significant on-site interaction with communities and regular remote work for reporting and strategic planning.
The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with a deep understanding of community development principles and a passion for fostering collaborative partnerships.
- Develop and execute comprehensive community engagement strategies aligned with the company's social responsibility goals.
- Organize and facilitate community meetings, consultations, and information-sharing sessions.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for community members, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively.
- Monitor and report on community sentiment and socio-economic impacts of mining operations.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Legal, Operations) to ensure alignment on community initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of local economic empowerment and skills development programs.
- Degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in community liaison, stakeholder engagement, or corporate social responsibility, preferably within the mining sector.
- Proven ability to build rapport and trust with diverse community groups.
- Strong understanding of community development principles and social impact assessment.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Comfortable with a hybrid work model, including regular travel to and engagement within communities.
