Volunteer Coordinator – 12 Month – Maternity Cover Postion

Help make a difference behind the scenes and on the front line

Salary: £17,232.75 per annum (based on 22.5 hours per week)

Hours: 22.5 hours per week. Working hours can be arranged flexibly across 3 to 5 days per week to meet both organisational and individual needs.

Contract: Fixed-term, 12-month maternity cover. There may be the opportunity for a short extension on a month-by-month basis, subject to the return date of the substantive postholder, to facilitate an effective handover and ensure continuity of service.

Location: Harrogate. The role will require a regular office presence; however, Harrogate Homeless Project operates a hybrid working approach and is happy to support a combination of office-based and home working where operationally appropriate.

At Harrogate Homeless Project (HHP), our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. From supporting our services and fundraising events to helping people rebuild their lives, volunteers make a real difference every day.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and people-focused Volunteer Coordinator to join our team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is an exciting opportunity to manage and develop our volunteer programme, ensuring volunteers feel valued, supported and empowered to make a lasting impact across our organisation.

About the role

As Volunteer Coordinator, you will lead the recruitment, onboarding, training and ongoing support of volunteers across HHP. Working closely with colleagues throughout the organisation, you will help match volunteers to meaningful opportunities, coordinate placements, and ensure our volunteer programme remains safe, effective and rewarding for everyone involved.

You will also play a key role in developing our community fundraising volunteer network, helping local supporters engage with HHP in their communities and raise vital funds to support our work.

Key responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview and onboard new volunteers across a range of roles.
  • Coordinate volunteer inductions, training and compliance requirements, including DBS checks where applicable.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, ensuring they feel supported and valued.
  • Produce and manage weekly volunteer rotas and coordinate volunteer activities across services.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records and databases, ensuring compliance with data protection requirements.
  • Develop opportunities for community fundraising volunteers and support local fundraising activity.
  • Gather and analyse volunteer feedback to improve the volunteer experience.
  • Manage work experience enquiries and placements across the organisation.
  • Support fundraising events and activities where volunteer involvement is required.

Every year, HHP supports people facing homelessness and housing difficulties across the Harrogate district. By joining our team, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring volunteers can continue to make a meaningful difference to the lives of those who need support most.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a dedicated and passionate team, helping to strengthen community involvement and support the delivery of services that change lives.

Closing Date: Friday 6 November

Please note: We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a sufficient number of applications from candidates who meet the experience and skills required for the role. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis throughout the recruitment period, therefore early applications are strongly encouraged.

Harrogate Homeless Project is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
