Community Organizer

Our client, a grassroots non-profit organization focused on social justice and community empowerment, is seeking a dynamic and committed Community Organizer . This contractor position is based remotely, allowing you to work from anywhere, but with a strong focus on organizing within the Upington, Northern Cape region. The role involves mobilizing community members, building coalitions, and advocating for positive social and environmental change.

You will be instrumental in identifying community issues, developing strategic action plans, and empowering local residents to participate actively in addressing their concerns. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a deep understanding of community organizing principles. • Identify and engage community members around key social and environmental issues in Upington, Northern Cape .
• Develop and implement organizing strategies to mobilize residents for collective action.
• Build and nurture strong relationships with community leaders, residents, and local organizations.
• Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and public forums.
• Train and support community members to become effective advocates.
• Develop campaign materials and communication strategies.
• Organize and participate in public actions, demonstrations, and advocacy efforts.
• Research and gather information on community needs and policy issues.
• Collaborate with other organizers and partner organizations.
• Maintain records of organizing activities and outcomes.

• Experience in community organizing, activism, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to mobilize and engage diverse groups of people.
• Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong leadership and facilitation abilities.
• Knowledge of social justice issues and advocacy strategies.
• Familiarity with the community of Upington, Northern Cape is a strong asset.
