Job OverviewThis role works in a collaborative outpatient model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff. It operates under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician and collaborates with PCCs, nurses, and discharge coordinators in planning, implementation, and evaluation of medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching of residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning.
Responsibilities- Utilize approved medical practice processes in delivery of all patient care.
- Provide care based on physical, psycho‑social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate for patient ages.
- Maintain an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes; may develop research methodology.
- Provide education to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community.
- Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy, communication style, and obtain permissions as needed.
- Perform related duties as required.
Education
- Master’s degree in nursing.
- Or
Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
Work Experience
- Required:
None. - Preferred: 3 years of related working experience.
Certifications
- For Nurse Practitioner:
- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
- Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner certification (ANCC or AANPCP).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Eligible for prescriptive authority as outlined by the state board of nursing.
- For Physician Assistant:
- License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice.
- NCCPA certification.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Eligible for prescriptive authority as outlined by the state board of medical examiners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and role‑specific software.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of advanced practice provider policies and protocols at department, campus, and system levels.
- Reliable transportation for travel between facilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability).
Medium work—may involve moving objects up to 20–50 pounds occasionally and/or 10–25 pounds frequently. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, bend, reach, and perform manual tasks. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases may occur. Occupational risk for hazardous medication and waste exposure.
