NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the Ward 11 nursing team. You will play a key role in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care, ensuring a safe, effective and person‑centred approach is maintained. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support patients with acute respiratory and general medical conditions, helping to deliver positive patient outcomes and an excellent patient experience through the Excellence in Care framework.

Ward 11 is a 30‑bedded Acute Respiratory and General Medical Ward within ECMS – Medical Specialities at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

The ward provides care for patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions and illnesses, alongside patients on a general medical pathway.

This is a busy and rewarding clinical environment that offers excellent opportunities to develop specialist respiratory knowledge and skills. Staff gain experience in the use of non‑invasive ventilation (NIV), the insertion and management of chest drains, and oxygen delivery and titration.

The ward also benefits from the support of the Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist and Respiratory Nurse Specialist teams.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • This is a permanent post
  • Two posts are available: one full‑time post at 36 hours per week and one part‑time post  hours per week, both working over a rotational shift pattern.
  • You will be based at Royal Alexandra Hospital

Key responsibilities:

You will contribute to a positive ward culture, work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines and actively participate in programmes of care designed to enhance the patient journey. The role requires a motivated and compassionate individual who can work effectively within a busy clinical environment while supporting continuous improvement and innovation in practice.

You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients with acute respiratory and general medical conditions. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care that meets individual patient needs. You will monitor patient progress, support clinical interventions, maintain accurate documentation and contribute to positive patient experiences and outcomes.
