The RoleYou need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post. An exciting opportunity has arisen within Ward 43 of Glasgow Royal Infirmary for a highly motivated Senior Charge Nurse to provide leadership and ensure high quality, safe, effective, person‑centred care. This is a fixed term post for one year. The post requires the successful candidate to demonstrate they are a strong clinical leader, be able to promote teamwork within a multi‑professional environment and demonstrate critical analysis and decision‑making skills.
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and expert advice to all nursing staff in this ward and responsibility will include recruitment, supervision, development and deployment of unit staff. You will ensure appropriate learning opportunities are available for all staff, encouraging best practice to deliver a high quality of patient care at all times in line with NHSGGC Care Assurance Standards.
The SCN will be required to work closely with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team within the ward and the senior management team within ECMS. This is a key post in delivering our nursing strategies and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient person‑centred care. You will be responsible to the Lead Nurse for clinical guidance and professional management.
As Senior Charge Nurse the candidate will have 24/7 responsibility for the management of the ward and delivery of care assurance standards. The post holder will contribute to the rotational Senior Nurse Medicine cover rota out of hours. All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHSGGC can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

- Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary Hospital
- Fixed‑term Contract for 1 year
- Full‑time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this position is rotational
- Provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
- Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
- Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
- Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
- Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well‑being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner; thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
- Demonstrate own professional development.
- Identify research/clinical audit priorities in conjunction with relevant professional groups.
- Lead the development of the research/clinical audit plan for the ward/department.
- Provide guidance, supervision and support for staff undertaking research, audit or teaching activities.
- First Level Registered Nurse registration experience which demonstrates the appropriate competencies and skills for the job. Educated to degree level (or working towards)
- Research experience including working knowledge of ICH GCP Guidelines, Medicines for Human Use Legislation (2004) and Research Governance Framework. Diabetic research experience highly desirable. Evidence of further education and continuous professional development…
