Position: Practice Development Nurse - CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health)
Location: Templeton

The Role

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) is seeking an experienced senior nurse to join the service as a Band 7 Practice Development Nurse on a fixed-term/secondment basis. Reporting to the Professional Nurse Lead and working closely with the existing CAMHS Practice Development Nurses, the successful candidate will support nursing practice and professional development across all NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde CAMHS teams.

  • This is a fixed-term vacancy from 17th August 2026 - 31st March 2028
  • This is a part-time post for 18 hours per week
  • These hours will be worked Monday to Friday during core hours
  • You will be based at Templeton Business Centre
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Key Responsibilities

The Practice Development Nurse will lead the development of nursing skills, competencies, and evidence-based practice across CAMHS, promoting and sharing best practice in line with national and local priorities. You will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical guidelines, procedures, and policies, while monitoring and maintaining high clinical standards across nursing services. Working collaboratively with Professional Nurse Leads, Clinical Service Managers, Senior Charge Nurses, and multidisciplinary teams, you will build links with national CAMHS services to support service improvement and innovation.

The role also includes leading and supporting nursing research and quality improvement initiatives, working alongside the HR/OD Manager to identify and deliver the learning and development needs of nursing staff, and encouraging nurses at all levels to actively contribute to service development and the ongoing modernisation of mental health services.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job Essential
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) with current NMC registration.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team-working skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload with minimal supervision.
  • Sound knowledge of current legislation, including the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, Child Protection, Care Assurance, and inpatient care approaches.
  • Ability to lead change, support professional development, and work effectively within multi-professional and multi-agency teams.
  • Computer and information technology literacy.
  • PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland clearance.
Desirable
  • Significant post-registration experience relevant to CAMHS.
  • Experience in practice development, quality improvement, or clinical education.
  • Evidence of involvement in research, service improvement, or implementing evidence-based practice.
  • A strong commitment to continuous professional development and improving patient care.
