Virtual Nurse Practitioner – Urgent & Primary Care Centre (UPCC) Position Summary
As a Virtual Nurse Practitioner supporting British Columbia's Urgent & Primary Care Centre (UPCC) program, you will provide timely, evidence-based episodic care to patients requiring same-day assessment for urgent, non‑life‑threatening health concerns.
Working from home as part of an interdisciplinary virtual care team, you will independently assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe, order investigations, and coordinate follow‑up for patients across the lifespan while ensuring safe, efficient, patient‑centred care. This role requires exceptional clinical judgement, adaptability, and the ability to confidently manage undifferentiated presentations within a fast‑paced virtual environment.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Nurse Practitioner who thrives in acute decision‑making, enjoys technology‑enabled healthcare, and is passionate about improving access to primary care.
What You’ll Do- Conduct comprehensive virtual assessments using advanced clinical reasoning.
- Diagnose and manage a broad range of acute, episodic, and primary care concerns.
- Prescribe medications, order and interpret laboratory investigations and diagnostic imaging within scope.
- Determine the most appropriate disposition, including self‑care, follow‑up, referral, or escalation to emergency services when clinically indicated.
- Deliver evidence‑based, patient‑centred care through secure virtual platforms.
- Complete accurate, timely clinical documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, patient flow coordinators, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals.
- Participate in clinical handoffs and communicate critical information effectively to ensure continuity of care.
- Support patients through education, preventative care, and health promotion initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of provincial clinical guidelines, virtual care standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Identify patients requiring emergency care and direct them to the appropriate level of care.
We’re looking for clinicians who enjoy working in an environment that is fast paced and clinically dynamic, high‑volume while maintaining exceptional quality of care, technology‑driven and continuously evolving, collaborative despite working remotely, and focused on timely decision‑making and patient flow.
Successful providers are highly organized with exceptional time management, calm under pressure, adaptable and flexible, passionate about innovation in virtual healthcare, and committed to delivering an exceptional patient experience.
