This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new and unique service in Scotland and the UK. The Thistle Service (Safer Drug Consumption Facility) provides a welcoming, clean and compassionate service for people who inject drugs.

The service operates seven days, 9am to 9pm, 365 days per year. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the wider multi‑disciplinary team, providing support to a wide range of individuals. The services provide a wide range of health and psychosocial interventions, as well as linking with third sector and voluntary sector services, to provide person‑centred care determined by the individual’s immediate needs.

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and experience of physical and/or mental health care, including Blood Borne Virus, wound care management and trauma. Individuals should have a welcoming and flexible approach by demonstrating an ability to communicate with a person‑centred, trauma informed and innovative approach to people who use drugs and alcohol.

Candidates must be an experienced First Level Registered Nurse with an active UK NMC PIN. Experience working with people using drugs and alcohol would be advantageous.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

• Full‑time position (36 hours per week) and Part‑time position (29.88 hours per week) available

Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours.

• Function as a Senior Addiction Nurse within a multi‑disciplinary team for a complex patient caseload requiring specialist ADRS treatment and care, undertaking care manager responsibilities for patients care coordination when required.
• Perform holistic assessment of care needs including risk assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the care and treatment for individual patients within ADRS and supporting recovery.
• Carry out all relevant forms of nursing care pertinent to the needs of individual patients in the least restrictive and disruptive manner as possible.
• Identify, coordinate and respond to health promotion needs of patients focusing on improving the mental and physical well‑being of patients.
• Identify, coordinate and respond to the needs of patients which might be related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, adult/child protection and/or self‑harm.
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and carers with complex/unstable care needs ensuring that needs are identified and met within a participative framework demonstrating principles of equality, dignity and respect accounting for spiritual and cultural diversity. Work proactively with other agencies/services (i.e. interpreter services) to aid effective communication.
• Work within agreed competency based parameters and undertake evidence‑based psychological therapies / psychological and trauma informed approaches to care with individuals and/or group settings.
• Administer prescribed medication/treatments in compliance with NHS GG&C Policy; monitor the effectiveness of prescribed treatments and manage unwanted side‑effects effectively.

• Registered Nurse – Level 1 NMC registration with significant addiction experience.
• Educated to minimum degree level or equivalent.
