The role:

Senior Charge Nurse – Ward 9, Acute Gastroenterology, Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a motivated, compassionate and experienced Senior Charge Nurse to lead a dedicated nursing team within an acute gastroenterology ward. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, safe, effective and person-centred care while supporting staff development within a busy clinical environment.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Base location
    - Glasgow Royal Infirmary
  • Full-time, Permanent
  • Shift pattern
    - Rotational, predominantly Monday to Friday early shift pattern
Key responsibilities:
  • Provide visible clinical leadership and expert nursing advice.
  • Lead, inspire and support the ward nursing team.
  • Promote effective multidisciplinary and multi-professional working.
  • Demonstrate sound judgement, critical thinking and confident decision-making.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, efficient and person-centred patient care.
  • Take responsibility for recruitment, supervision, development and deployment of staff.
  • Support learning and development opportunities for nursing staff.
  • Encourage evidence-based best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with the ward multidisciplinary team and the ECMS senior management team.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and the development of nursing practice.
  • Maintain and promote NHSGGC Care Assurance Standards.
  • Be accountable to the Lead Nurse for clinical guidance and professional management.
  • Hold overall responsibility for ward management and care assurance standards.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • Significant nursing experience and leadership capability.
  • Strong clinical leadership skills within an acute healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of safe, effective and person-centred care delivery.
  • Understanding of NHSGGC Care Assurance Standards and best practice principles.
  • Ability to support staff development, learning and professional growth.
  • Experience of workforce management, including recruitment, supervision and staff deployment.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative working skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, clinical judgement and decision-making abilities.
  • Commitment to service improvement and high standards of patient care.
