The RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated and experienced Primary Care Nurses to join the GP Out of Hours Service within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. We are recruiting to five posts based across a number of Out of Hours locations, including New Victoria Hospital, Stobhill Hospital, and Royal Alexandra Hospital. Various contracted hours and shift patterns are available, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekend dayshifts and public holidays.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside General Practitioners (GPs), Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), and Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs), the Primary Care Nurse will provide safe, effective, and person-centred care to patients accessing urgent primary care services outside normal GP practice hours.
We are seeking Registered Nurses with experience in acute, emergency, urgent care, or other relevant clinical settings. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent assessment, triage, communication, and organisational skills, together with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary team working. A proactive approach, strong clinical judgement, and a commitment to collaborative team working are essential to success in this role.
In line with current Home Office requirements, we can not sponsor this post. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

- The shift pattern for this post are including evenings, overnight shifts, weekend dayshifts and public holidays.

- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Patients are referred for assessment through NHS 24, and the post holder will undertake initial nursing assessments to determine clinical acuity, record clinical observations, identify immediate care needs, and monitor patients awaiting medical review. The role also includes coordinating patient flow, prioritising care according to clinical need, escalating concerns appropriately, supporting and supervising HCSWs, assisting with medication administration and clinical procedures, and maintaining accurate electronic patient records.
Knowledge,training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job Essential
- Registered Nurse on the NMC Register
- Significant post registration experience within a healthcare setting some of which must be in Emergency, Acute or Urgent Care
- A commitment to lifelong learning and demonstrates evidence of continuing professional development
- Basic Life Support
- Background in Emergency Department nursing with triage experience
- Experience of working in primary care
- Paediatric nursing experience
- Successful track record in working in multi-disciplinary team settings and promoting collaborative approaches to delivering excellent patient care
