About the Role

Leighton House Nursing Home is seeking a compassionate and experienced Senior Carer to join its dedicated care team in Epsom, Surrey. This permanent full-time position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about delivering person‑centred care while taking on leadership responsibilities within a supportive nursing home environment.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring residents receive high‑quality care tailored to their individual needs while helping to maintain a positive, safe, and welcoming environment for both residents and staff.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you will work closely with care staff, registered nurses, residents, and families. You will help supervise care delivery, support team development, monitor resident wellbeing, and ensure care practices meet current standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise care staff to ensure high‑quality care delivery.
  • Support residents with daily living activities, including personal care, dressing, bathing, eating, grooming, and mobility.
  • Monitor residents’ physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date care records and documentation.
  • Communicate changes in residents’ conditions to registered nurses and healthcare professionals.
  • Administer and support medication management in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for residents’ families and external healthcare professionals.
  • Conduct staff supervision sessions and contribute to performance appraisals.
  • Assist with rota planning to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix.
  • Audit care records and practices to maintain compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Support the induction, orientation, and ongoing development of new team members.
  • Promote dignity, equality, inclusion, and person‑centred care at all times.
Candidate Requirements Required
  • Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or an equivalent vocational qualification.
  • Previous experience working in a senior care role or similar healthcare environment.
  • Experience supporting individuals with varying care and support needs.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good organisational and leadership abilities.
  • Compassionate, professional, and resident‑focused approach to care.
  • Ability to make informed decisions and adapt to changing situations.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, care planning, and person‑centred care principles.
Preferred
  • At least one year of experience in a Senior Carer position.
  • Experience with in nursing homes, residential care homes, or similar care settings.
  • Experience conducting staff supervision and appraisals.
  • Knowledge of medication administration procedures.
  • Ability to commute to or relocate near Epsom, Surrey.
  • Existing authorisation to work in the United Kingdom.
