The Role

An opportunity has arisen within PICU for a Band 7 Senior Charge Nurse. The successful candidate will be an experienced critical care nurse with previous PICU experience at Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse level. The post holder will provide clinical and managerial leadership within the Critical Care service and support the delivery of high-quality patient care.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Permanent, Full-time
  • Shift pattern - 7:30 am - 8 pm, 7:30 pm - 8 am
  • Base location - Royal Hospital for Children
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and management for a team of nursing staff.
  • Be accountable for ensuring organisational targets are met, including:
    • TURAS compliance
    • Sickness absence management (target of less than 4% per month)
    • Achievement of all statutory and mandatory training requirements
  • Support the Critical Care Coordinator in the financial management of the unit.
  • Ensure effective fiscal management and good housekeeping practices.
  • Contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Registered Nurse with Part 8 or Part 15 registration on the NMC Register.
  • Part 1 NMC registration with competency in caring for adult ICU patients.
  • Previous PICU experience at Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse level.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capability.
  • Understanding of workforce management, sickness absence management, and mandatory training compliance.
  • Awareness of financial management principles within a clinical environment.
