Position: Nurse Practitioner - Plastic surgery (annexe 21)

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Preoperative Assessment Team for Plastic Surgery at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The team assesses patients undergoing elective and trauma surgery who are referred from a large geographical area across the West of Scotland.

You will provide direct patient care to a defined group of plastic surgery patients requiring pre-operative assessment before surgery and/or anaesthesia. Working closely with nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will support the delivery of consistently high-quality care through comprehensive patient assessment. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of an innovative plastic surgery service and advanced clinical practice.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Permanent, Full-time

Shift Pattern - 8 am - 4 pm, 5 days, 36 hours a week

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to plastic surgery patients requiring pre-operative assessment.
  • Carry out comprehensive patient assessments before surgery and/or anaesthesia.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Support patients preparing for surgery in partnership with plastics, anaesthetic and theatre teams.
  • Undertake technical clinical duties, including:
    • History taking
    • ECG recording and interpretation
    • Blood test ordering
    • Venepuncture
  • Contribute to service development and the advancement of clinical practice within plastic surgery.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job Essential
  • Registered Nurse with the NMC.
  • Post-registration nursing experience.
  • Proficient in ECG recording and venepuncture.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
  • Experience with in plastic surgery theatre, surgical, or anaesthetic settings.
Education and Development

You will receive supported clinical development within the service and will be expected to undertake advanced practice courses, including:

  • Clinical Assessment
  • Preparing to Advance Practice
  • Pre-operative Assessment Module

This role can be supported as an Annex 21 training role if the successful candidate does not already hold the qualifications listed above.
