Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Police Custody Healthcare (PCHC) B7​/Annex 21

We have an exciting opportunity to apply for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner / Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner role in Police Custody Health Care (PCHC). This is a new development and service model within PCHC which will be integral in supporting the development and direction of the service, delivering the clinical case management of a unique Police Custody Healthcare and Forensic service.

As an ANP you will provide specialist advice to healthcare professionals, Police Scotland, Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), and persons referred and will utilise high levels of decision-making and clinical judgment to triage, examine, treat and close episodes of care for a diverse range of patients referred for forensic medical examination and healthcare in police custody.

As an ANP will ensure that persons referred health needs are met through the provision of the diagnosis and the management of conditions through the assessment, treatment and review planning process in partnership with persons referred, Police Scotland and the COPFS.

As an ANP will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary forensic medical and PCHC team to meet the needs of persons referred in police care, supporting the development and delivery of policy and procedures, development and implementation of nursing services and providing nurse and clinical leadership as required.

Knowledge and / or experience of delivering services with justice requirements would be advantageous, though not a requirement. Experience of service change, research and audit, quality improvement and development would be desirable.

As the role is covering a peripatetic service a driving licence is required.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

• Location based in Govan Police Station, 923 Helen St, Glasgow, G52 1EE
• Permanent Contract
• Full-time (36 hours) and part-time (18 hours) positions available

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

• To triage/clinically assess patients, prioritising clinical need, initiating treatment in line with agreed guidelines and referring those patients who require medical intervention to appropriate services
• Take a comprehensive systematic history, conduct assessment and clinical examination of patients requiring medical care to ensure that optimum physical and psychological care needs are met
• Where appropriate, initiate investigations on patients to improve access to treatment.
• Screen patients for disease using clinical assessment and other findings, such as laboratory results, x-rays and electronic clinical records
• Initiates drug therapy/medication within parameters of agreed clinical guidelines and in accordance with non-medical prescriber’s legislation
• Conduct, where appropriate, invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
• Promote, develop and undertake clinical audit programmes, and contributing to research to support own and the teams’ best practice leading to continuous improvement in care using critical appraisal and evaluation skills.
• Interprets newly generated research findings supporting implementation using advanced knowledge and skills, disseminating findings internally to influence best practice
• Initiate, facilitates or undertakes appropriate research in relation to custody healthcare and forensic medical services for people in police care.
