Position: Charge Nurse - Out Patient Department Neurology B6

The role:

The Clinical Nurse (CN) within the Neurology and OMFS Outpatient Department is responsible for managing and leading the department in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse (SCN). The post holder works closely with the multidisciplinary and medical teams to provide specialist nursing care, advice, assessment, monitoring and treatment for patients with neurological, neurosurgical and OMFS conditions. The role also includes deputising for the SCN and supporting the delivery of high-quality outpatient services.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Full-time - 36 hours per week

Shift pattern
- Monday – Friday 09.00 – 17.00

Base location
- Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Key responsibilities:
  • Manage and lead the outpatient department in the absence of the SCN.
  • Deliver specialist nursing care to patients with neurological, neurosurgical and OMFS conditions.
  • Assess, monitor and treat patients, including managing complications as they arise.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants, nurse-led services and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Support and contribute to consultant-led and nurse-led specialty clinics.
  • Participate in the delivery of services within the minor theatre suite, including intra-oral biopsies, skin biopsies and nurse-led dressing clinics.
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for the management and delivery of specialist nursing care.
  • Report to and deputise for the SCN when required.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential:
  • Registered Nurse qualification.
  • Relevant post-registration qualifications.
  • Specialist knowledge of neurological and OMFS conditions.
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Exposure to management responsibilities and skills.
  • Excellent clinical skills and experience in specialist nursing care.
Desirable:
  • Experience working within a minor theatre environment.
  • Experience of intra-oral biopsies, skin biopsies and nurse-led dressing clinics.
