Senior Research Nurse Clinical research Facility

The role:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for career development within the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (GCRF), supporting the delivery of high-quality clinical research across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The GCRF operates across multiple sites and provides comprehensive support to investigators delivering a diverse portfolio of research studies, including commercial clinical trials of investigational medicinal products (CTIMPs) and complex academic research.

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and innovative Registered Adult Nurse to join our team as a Senior Research Nurse, with a primary focus on renal research. While renal studies will form the main focus of the role, the successful candidate will also be expected to work flexibly across the wider GCRF research portfolio, supporting the safe and effective delivery of clinical research studies.

The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (GCRF) operates across multiple NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sites, including the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Royal Hospital for Children, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital, and Glasgow Dental Hospital, providing comprehensive support for the delivery of a diverse portfolio of clinical research studies.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• 36 hours per week
• Fixed-term for 2 years
• Based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
• Core hours  with flexibility to meet service needs

Key responsibilities:

The postholder will coordinate all aspects of clinical research study delivery, including participant recruitment, informed consent procedures, treatment administration, patient education, monitoring and follow-up activities, and the accurate collection and documentation of study data.

Working closely with Principal and Chief Investigators and the wider multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will manage a caseload of research participants while ensuring studies are conducted in accordance with research governance standards, Good Clinical Practice guidelines, and study protocols. The role requires effective communication, organisation, and the ability to work independently while contributing to the wider research team

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential

• Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Educated to degree level or working towards a degree, with evidence of continuing professional development.
• Significant current clinical experience, ideally within a renal setting.
• Competence in clinical and technical skills, including:
  • Venepuncture
  • Intravenous drug administration
  • Immediate Life Support
• Understanding of:
  • Informed consent processes
  • Confidentiality requirements
  • Randomisation procedures
  • Ethical considerations in research
• Knowledge of the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and IT skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet agreed timelines and quality standards.
• Ability to learn and adapt to new research protocols and projects.
