Position: TX Coordinating Wildlife Biologist I, II, or III
Location: Clarendon

Overview

TX Coordinating Wildlife Biologist I, II, or III — join the PF & QF Conservation Delivery team to provide biological/wildlife technical assistance for NRCS, PF & QF, TPWD, and other partners. This field-focused role offers exposure to soils, range plants, row-crop agriculture, livestock, and wildlife, with emphasis on grassland/upland wildlife and habitats in the Rolling Plains of the Texas Panhandle. The position supports grassland conservation and helps cooperators with conservation goals and funding applications (e.g., Farm Bill programs, Grassland Restoration Incentive Programs) and participates in workshops, trainings, field days, and outreach with landowners and partners.

Responsibilities

Coordinating Wildlife Biologist I
  • Familiarize yourself with conservation programs and partner processes.
  • Learn the coverage area, including landscape, landowner culture, and partnerships.
  • Outreach to landowners on conservation programs via meetings, mailers, newsletters, social media, etc.
  • Conduct natural resource surveys and provide wildlife habitat guidance to landowners, agencies, and organizations (training available through NRCS, PF & QF, and others).
  • Develop conservation plans, documentation, contracts, and applications for NRCS and other programs.
  • Explain program requirements, conduct site visits, and develop plans and contracts for program enrollment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Coordinating Wildlife Biologist II
  • All duties of Biologist I.
  • Coordinate NRCS and partners on wildlife initiatives and grassland-focused programs (e.g., EQIP-WLFW, CRP SAFE, SGP-GRIP).
  • Foster relationships with conservation partners, landowner coalitions, and local communities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Coordinating Wildlife Biologist III
  • All duties of Biologist II.
  • Lead natural resource surveys, monitoring projects, and process development.
  • Lead content-based outreach on social media, websites, blogs, magazines, and other channels to increase storytelling.
  • Coordinate habitat tours, landowner workshops, and demonstration areas.
  • Serve as a team member mentor with leadership duties across the statewide team.
  • Represent PF & QF at professional/partnership meetings and working groups; oversee reporting data for grant deliverables; coordinate meetings with funding partners.
Education and/or experience
  • College degree in wildlife biology, natural resources, environmental science, or related field AND
  • At least 2–3 years practical experience providing private lands conservation technical assistance, landowner outreach, or leadership of upland habitat programs AND
  • Applied prescribed fire experience is encouraged AND
  • A Master of Science degree, Wildlife Society Certification, or equivalent work experience is a bonus AND
  • USDA Conservation Planner Certifications is a bonus.
Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate clearly with landowners, coworkers, and partner agencies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with diverse clientele.
  • Knowledge of wildlife ecology, prescribed fire, grassland/wetland/early-succession habitat management, and habitat management tools for management plans; knowledge of grassland wildlife species’ habitat requirements is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of conservation programs (Farm Bill and other entities) and implementation in agricultural landscapes.
  • Knowledge of local herbaceous plants and ability to identify them; familiarity with agricultural landscapes and farming practices is desirable.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied conditions; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office;
    Arc Pro and USDA Conservation Desktop is desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Valid driver’s license; some mileage reimbursement; ability to obtain USDA Federal Security Clearance.
  • Work-related overnight travel: 5–20 nights/year.

Confidentiality
  • Access to confidential records may be required; confidentiality of information must be maintained.
Physical requirements
  • Lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Work environment
  • Work from a partner office with potential telework from a home office with supervisor approval.
  • Overnight travel for conferences and partner events; 5–20 days per year.
