Temporary Restoration Field Technician I

Location: San Diego County

Practice/Department: Habitat Restoration Sciences (HRS)

Work Environment: On‑site

Employment Type: Temporary

Compensation: $20–$23 hourly (based on experience, education, and location)

Overview

Dudek is a 100% employee‑owned firm that delivers habitat restoration projects across the United States. We work outdoors, managing vegetation, installing and maintaining irrigation systems, and supporting conservation initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with supervisor in installation of construction and landscape construction projects
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools
  • Maintain and care for company equipment, tools and vehicles
  • Perform highly physical installation work on a consistent basis
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site
  • Work as part of a team and take direction
  • Follow all safety procedures on project site
  • Always represent the company’s best interest, maintain the highest level of integrity
  • Keep accurate timesheet records, submitted for review and signoff by required deadlines
  • Complete project daily reports if needed
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned or instructed by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in landscape industry
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean DMV record
  • Ability to travel out of town/overnight
  • Highly motivated, self‑driven, detail oriented
  • Great time‑management skills; available for seasonal long hours and weekends
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of differing backgrounds, knowledge and skill levels
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience with irrigation system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Direct experience in habitat restoration, including planting, invasive species removal, and ecosystem management
  • Experience in the safe handling and application of pesticides, including compliance with local and federal regulations
  • Comfort working in outdoor, variable conditions and performing physically demanding tasks
  • Proven ability to work effectively in field teams and coordinate with multiple stakeholders
Benefits & Compensation

Temporary employees are employed for short‑term assignments. Position not eligible for company benefits except as required by applicable law. Successful candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check.

Working Conditions
  • This job operates in an outdoor‑based environment.
  • Outdoor activity involves walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • This job requires project site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Working on a computer, sitting, or standing for long periods of time in a field, office, or remote office setting.
  • Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50 lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).
  • Attending meetings, both in person and virtually, and speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
