Job Description

Primarily in Groundskeeping, performs a variety of moderately complex technical tasks related to maintaining the University's buildings, facilities and grounds. Hours for this position are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with considerable flexibility for university event support, snow removal and other operational grounds support.

Essential Duties
  • Coordinates and performs groundskeeping services in collaboration with events and athletic activities, to include mowing, trimming, pruning; planting trees, shrubs and flowers; installing sod/grass
  • May assist with irrigation repairs and maintenance
  • May operate equipment, as needed
  • May assign tasks to employees and monitor activities to ensure compliance with appropriate standards and that deadlines are met
  • Assists with training new team members; may train student employees regarding policies and procedures, job duties and use of equipment
  • Ensures that work area is clean and ready for use; ensures that all necessary supplies and materials are available
  • Monitors inventory and reorders as necessary
  • Assists in enforcing rules and regulations; may provide input for employee evaluations
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires six months of training beyond high school and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Requires valid driver s license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pesticide applicator license

Additional Position Information

Working Conditions
Frequent standing, walking, and operating equipment. Some lifting of materials weighing up to 70 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with slightly unpleasant physical situations.

Special Instructions

Applicants must have valid driver's license. Be able to lift minimum 30 lbs, work experience in mowing, weed eating, sidewalk edging, trimming of plant material. Be willing to get pesticide license. Work schedule may include overtime opportunities.
