An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen within the Council’s Environment Team for the position of SCAMP Coastal Infrastructure Coordinator.
About SCAMP – Landscape ConnectionsSolway Coast and Marine Project (SCAMP) – Landscape Connections is a seascape‑scale nature restoration project covering 210 miles of the North Solway Coast and its shallow marine environment in Dumfries and Galloway. This is an incredible chance to make a lasting positive impact on the future health of the Solway seascape and influence how we respond to the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.
You’ll take the lead to coordinate and develop the proposals for capital improvements to coastal access and gateway infrastructure along the north Solway coast.
Key Responsibilities- Make full use of your project management and contract management skills to develop and deliver coastal access infrastructure as part of the Solway Coast and Marine Project (SCAMP) Landscape Connections.
- Contribute to developing a stage 2 National Lottery Heritage Fund application to their new Landscape Connections programme.
SCAMP Landscape Connections was the first project to be awarded a stage 1 development grant, and we anticipate submitting a stage 2 National Lottery Heritage Fund application in spring 2027 for an 8‑year delivery programme.
Requirements- Passion for the environment and access to the countryside.
- Knowledge of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and Land Reform legislation.
- Good communicator with a proven track record in solving problems and dealing with people.
- Relevant qualification (minimum HNC or equivalent) and experience.
- Confident, diplomatic and persuasive personality to negotiate with, present to and influence stakeholders.
- Quick learner, self‑motivated and flexible.
- Good written and oral communication skills, ICT skills, familiarity with maps, access to transport.
- Current driving licence (or alternative transport if disability).
The successful candidate will be based at Kirkbank House in Dumfries with home working but will also need to visit locations throughout Dumfries and Galloway from Gretna to Stranraer. The post may be suitable for job share. Training and support will be provided.
