Weekend Veterinary Patient Care Assistant – Mi Night Vet Middlesbrough
Are you passionate about making pets a priority? So are we! We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for animals to join us in a weekend‑only role, working one of every two weekend days, including four bank holidays each year. Hours will alternate between 8:00‑19:00 and 10:00‑21:00 and the position is on an annualised hours contract.
About Mi Night Vet MiddlesbroughMi Night Vet Middlesbrough is a dedicated small animal emergency and out‑of‑hours veterinary service, providing overnight and weekend care for dogs, cats and small mammals. Based in Middlesbrough and working in partnership with local daytime practices, the clinic delivers high‑quality urgent and critical care when regular surgeries are closed.
Equipped with modern facilities—including on‑site diagnostics, imaging and hospitalisation—the service is staffed by experienced vets, nurses and patient care assistants with a strong focus on emergency medicine and patient care.
About the RoleThe Veterinary Care Assistant role is fundamental to delivering outstanding veterinary practice. As a VCA, you will support our team of qualified RVNs and Vets in providing outstanding care to our patients.
Key Duties- Nursing care to patients
- Assisting vet and nurse staff in restraining animals for treatment
- Cleaning, walking and feeding patients
- Preparation of emergency and operating facilities
- General cleaning and maintenance duties
- Running internal lab samples
- Answering emergency calls
- Covering the receptionist desk, including answering queries, booking appointments and taking payments
- Excellent communicator with strong empathy
- Excellent customer service skills and experience dealing with members of the public
- Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, medicating and handling, and a high level of understanding of meeting animals’ welfare needs
- Resilient with the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations
- A positive attitude and excellent teamwork skills
- Experience caring for animals in a veterinary environment desirable
- Salary aligned with the National Minimum Wage
