Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:

As a Senior Materials Developer for Veilance, you are a subject matter expert focused on our future natural materials. You will serve as a team lead, guiding other team members and cross-functional partners to deliver operational excellence, while engaging in special projects. Your role involves developing best-in-class textiles that impact the success of our Veilance collection and material targets. You will collaborate with industry partners through hands-on experience, building a high-performance toolbox of premium natural and synthetic textiles, with a focus on on-time delivery to drive the brand forward.

This role is based in North Vancouver with a hybrid remote work option. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Meet Your Future Team:

The Raw Materials Development (RMD) Team creates seasonal performance textiles and trims that exceed industry standards. We develop innovative materials that can become iconic for our brand, emphasizing knowledge, excellence, and timely delivery in partnership with our supply chain.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Concept and develop natural textiles like cotton, silk, linen, and wool to create a competitive advantage in luxury markets for Veilance.
  • Provide expertise on material design attributes such as surface, hand, and drape.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising and Design teams to align on creative visions, identifying opportunities and gaps in the material toolbox.
  • Source and develop top-tier materials from novel fibers, yarns, and finishes, aligned with the materials roadmap.
  • Communicate timelines and expertise to cross-functional teams and partners.
  • Understand roles across Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Wear Testing, Sourcing, and Color Operations.
  • Manage the material toolbox to support decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Guide the team on commercialization and market deployment of materials.
  • Identify innovation opportunities for high-performance and durable materials.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities and coordinate with sourcing for commercialization stages.
  • Work with sustainability teams to meet material targets.
  • Assess risks and communicate development status to leadership.
  • Travel to trade shows and mills to build partnerships and explore new materials.
  • Test and evaluate materials using industry-standard lab testing and manage field testing programs.
Future Projects:
  • Develop material trademarks with brand partners.
  • Assess development initiatives for performance and feasibility.
  • Align developments with business priorities, contributing ideas beyond your category.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings and represent the RMD function confidently.
  • Plan and lead team meetings.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years in apparel/equipment industry related to textiles for luxury brands.
  • Degree or diploma in Materials Science, Textile Technology, Product or Textile Design, or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of the RMD commercialization process and best practices for on-time delivery.
  • Knowledge of trims and textile manufacturing processes.
  • Expertise in performance textiles and laboratory testing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PLM systems.
  • Physical ability to handle fabrics and travel internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for coaching, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

The estimated pay range is CAD $91,000 - CAD $114,000, excluding bonuses and benefits. Salary is determined by skills, experience, and education.
