Medical Technologist & Lab Technician
We are seeking a Flexible Technician for our Flexible Operational department located in Tranent.
Job OverviewThis is an exciting opportunity to join a newly created department within Charles River Laboratories with a wide variety of skills, experience and knowledge in Formulations to Necropsy. The Flexible Operational team will support the entire technical operation. As a Flexible Technician, no two days will be the same and you will work across many different departments, doing a wide variety of tasks and working with colleagues from across the operation.
Responsibilities- Deploy to support peaks in operational workload across multiple functional departments.
- Support formulation and dispensing of test items for use in scientific studies.
- Deliver essential care to our animals as required, including husbandry duties.
- Administer regulated procedures.
- Document clinical signs and observed behaviors on relevant data systems.
- Maintain lab equipment and apparatus, reporting equipment faults and completing relevant forms to resolve issues.
- Prepare study files, label pots, vials and assist with the set‑up of scientific studies.
- Conduct quality control checks if required.
- Carry out necropsy procedures.
- Undertake relevant training across the division to support key functions.
- Maintain required skills for flexible deployment as needed on an ongoing basis.
- Work effectively with a wide range of colleagues and teams across the business on a regular basis.
- Obtain a home office licence.
- Commit to an unpredictable work schedule, e.g., vehicle preparation in formulations, room cleans in technical services and rodent necropsy over consecutive days.
- Maintain flexibility and adaptability in day‑to‑day responsibilities.
- Minimum of five National 5 grades or equivalent.
- Comfortable with changes to the working environment on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Flexible and adaptive approach to suit the needs of the operation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of colleagues.
- Ability to use initiative and take ownership for delivering tasks across the operation.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment in working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience in a multidisciplinary role.
Salary: £24,557.62 per annum.
Job DescriptionPerforms technical tasks in the conduct of in vivo research studies or support services in accordance with good animal welfare practices. Prepares, collects, and records research data and specimens in compliance with applicable regulations and SOPs.
