This role sits within a growing training function that supports professionals working in fire safety disciplines to achieve recognised qualifications and maintain high professional standards.

As an Assessor & IQA, you'll play a key role in shaping learner success, providing high-quality assessment, guidance, and quality assurance across specialist fire safety programmes. This is a varied position where your expertise will directly contribute to raising standards across fire risk awareness, compliance, and safety practice.

Responsibilities
  • Support learners through their qualification journey, providing clear, structured, and actionable feedback.
  • Assess learner work and track progress against programme requirements.
  • Deliver guidance on assessment processes across both online and classroom settings.
  • Conduct Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) to ensure consistency, compliance, and high standards.
  • Mentor and support assessors, promoting best practice and standardisation.
  • Manage your caseload effectively, meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of assessment materials and processes.
  • Identify and address any issues relating to plagiarism or malpractice.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and subject matter experts to enhance learning quality.
Qualifications
  • Level 4 qualification in Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, or relevant experience.
Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proactive and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Confident stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to share knowledge.
Experience
  • Experience assessing or supporting learners in a professional or technical environment.
  • Knowledge of fire safety disciplines such as fire doors or passive fire protection.
  • Experience delivering structured, constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience conducting fire risk assessments and report writing.
  • Experience working with regulated qualifications or awarding bodies.
