Food Technical Assistant

Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Food Technical Assistant to join our QA/Technical team based at our Wolverhampton office. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within food manufacturing and quality assurance, working across both technical and quality functions to help maintain the highest standards of food safety, compliance, and product quality.

The role is primarily office-based; however, some remote working may be available as the role develops and business needs allow.

As a key member of the team, you will work closely with suppliers, restaurant operations, and internal stakeholders to ensure our products, systems, and processes meet the highest standards expected by the Tim Hortons brand.

Key Responsibilities Technical & Quality Support
  • Generate and maintain allergen and nutritional information for finished products.
  • Update and maintain product information on RBI specification portals, ensuring supplier and ingredient details remain accurate.
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain and verify technical information and documentation.
  • Proofread specifications, artwork, and technical documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support the management of customer complaints, including logging, investigation, root cause analysis, trend reporting, and communication with suppliers and restaurants.
  • Produce weekly complaints and quality reports for inclusion in company communications.
  • Assist Operations teams with customer complaint investigations and responses.
  • Create and maintain product and raw material documentation using Microsoft Office and online specification systems.
  • Maintain technical databases and website product information.
  • Respond to internal and external technical queries.
  • Assist with food safety, health & safety, and training initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Learning & Development and Operations teams to develop and improve operational procedures.
  • Support product maintenance within retailer and RBI systems.
  • Assist with taste panels, product trials, and reporting of findings.
  • Establish and maintain Quality Assurance Agreements (QAS) with suppliers.
  • Maintain supplier contact databases and technical records.
  • Generate and update HACCP and Quality Manual documentation.
  • Coordinate annual microbiological and environmental swabbing programmes, including reporting and corrective actions.
Department Administration
  • Support the maintenance of departmental records, databases, and working documents.
  • Assist with writing procedures and creating presentations.
  • Prepare and dispatch product samples.
  • Arrange couriers and laboratory testing.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably requested to support the needs of the business.
About You

We're looking for someone who combines technical knowledge with excellent organisation and communication skills.

  • Degree qualified in Food Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year's experience within a food production, technical, or quality role (including placements).
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Experience creating documents, managing spreadsheets, and working with formulas.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Good understanding of allergen management, product labelling, and artwork approval processes.
  • Experience working with retailer specification systems.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
  • Confidence communicating with both internal and external stakeholders.

Location & Travel

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our Wolverhampton office (
WV11 1XR
). Occasional travel to restaurant locations across the UK will be required.
