Comptroller - Commercial Appraiser - Central Texas District
Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts is seeking a Commercial Field Appraiser in the Property Tax Assistance Division (PTAD). This position falls under the Appraisal Operations Area, Complex Property Appraisal Section.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct journey‑level appraisal work, including property value ratio studies, gathering property sales information, and performing various property appraisals.
- Represent the Property Tax Division in formal and informal appeals and provide testimony in legal proceedings.
- Work within a multiple‑county region, following direction from supervisor and lead appraiser.
- Apply local cost modifiers, develop land schedules based on sales, consult industry publications, and gather income and expense information on commercial properties.
- Inspect properties and contact real buyers and sellers for information on the property’s real estate market value.
- Prepare economic or statistical reports; examine and verify real‑estate records to determine property ownership, incomes, and expenses in connection with real‑estate ownership.
- Graduation from high school or GED.
- Six (6) years of appraisal work (residential, commercial, or personal property).
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, management, or real estate from an accredited four‑year college or university.
- Eight (8) years of commercial appraisal experience utilizing income, cost, and market approaches.
- Appraiser II designation (Level IV RPA or equivalent).
- Valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Applicants offered an interview must provide a state‑issued driving record for the last 36 months, current proof of automobile insurance, and valid driver’s license.
Agency standard hours:
Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm (40 hours/week) with occasional evening or weekend work. Remote work from home is possible for the School District Property Value Study within the assigned region. Candidates must reside or be willing to reside in the following counties:
Atascosa, Bastrop, Bell, Bexar, Burleson, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, Karnes, Lee, Milam, Travis, Williamson, Wilson.
