We are hiring an In-House Surface Land Agent in Western Canada!

Are you an organized, motivated land professional looking for an opportunity to contribute to large-scale, multi-year projects? If so, Scott Land & Lease has an opportunity for an In-House Surface Land Agent to join our growing team and support ongoing project activities throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

Scott Land & Lease works across a range of industries, including oil and gas, pipelines, renewable energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, transportation, utilities, and more. With over 34 years of experience providing professional land services, we take pride in delivering quality work, building strong client relationships, and supporting some of the industry’s most significant projects.

We are seeking a motivated and relationship-focused Land Agent with experience in surface land acquisition, right-of-way negotiations, landowner relations, and related project activities. The successful candidate will work closely with client representatives, landowners, internal project teams, and other stakeholders to secure the necessary surface rights and agreements to support project development and execution.

This role offers the opportunity to work directly alongside a client’s project team on a substantial, multi-year project involving land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and coordination across multiple project areas. The successful candidate should be comfortable managing land acquisition files independently while maintaining regular communication with the broader project team.

The position is expected to be based primarily out of the client’s Calgary or Edmonton office, with remote work arrangements potentially considered for candidates located outside reasonable commuting distance. Travel to project areas may be required based on operational needs.

Skills required for success in this role:
  • Experience as a Surface Land Agent, Land Acquisition Agent, Right-of-Way Agent, or in a comparable land services role.
  • Strong understanding of surface land acquisition processes, right-of-way requirements, landowner negotiations, and agreement execution.
  • Experience negotiating and securing surface rights, including right-of-way agreements, easements, access agreements, temporary workspace, crossing agreements, and other land-use arrangements.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with landowners, occupants, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting landowner outreach, explaining project requirements, addressing concerns, negotiating terms, and facilitating agreement execution.
  • Knowledge of land title research, legal descriptions, survey plans, parcel identification, ownership verification, and related property documentation.
  • Ability to interpret project plans, alignment sheets, survey information, and other technical documentation to support land acquisition activities.
  • Experience working on Canadian Energy Regulator (CER) projects considered an asset.
  • Experience maintaining accurate land acquisition files, land status reports, negotiation records, agreement trackers, and project databases.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence, document negotiations, and communicate professionally with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple land acquisition files, competing priorities, and project deadlines while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, and the ability to work with client-specific land…
