Job Summary
The Department of Neuroscience and the Center for Advanced Pain Studies at UT Dallas has an opening for a Post Doctoral Research Associate to join the Yousuf Lab.
This specific position will work on NIH grant funded projects that are aimed at understanding the mechanisms and treatments of chronic pain in preclinical models. The applicant should have experience working with rodents and performing behavior assays, surgeries, and dissections. The applicant should also have experience with cell culture work with a focus on generating and maintaining primary cultures using rodent and human dorsal root ganglia.
The applicant should also have experience in routine molecular biology techniques like Western blotting, PCR, immunohistochemistry and/or microscopy. Experience with electrophysiology or live-cell imaging techniques like calcium imaging is also required. However, experience with bioinformatics or computational tools for biology is highly recommended but not required. This position provides an opportunity to lead and run experiments under the supervision of the PI.
The salary for Post-Doctoral Research Associates in BBS is determined by years of experience per the current NIH (NRSA) stipend levels. Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications. This job is funded for 1 year with the possibility of renewal. Continued employment is contingent on the availability of funds.

- PhD degree in Neuroscience or related field
- Technical knowledge of molecular biology methods (e.g. Western blotting, PCR, nucleic acid purification), cell biology techniques (e.g. cell culture, microscopy), cell-based functional assays (e.g. electrophysiology, live-cell imaging)
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide technical and research support for key laboratory personnel
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory
- Responsible for the careful documentation of the experimental procedures and results they generate
- Draft manuscripts detailing their experiments
- Help maintain lab equipment and SOPs
- Troubleshoot and address technical problems as well as summarize and present results
- Performing related duties as assigned

Remote Notice:
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and can be on campus within 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
Travel: This position may be subject to local travel for assessment or participant needs. Other occasional travel may occur such as for training/development, conferences, etc.
